Tag! (& giveaway winners)

Erin and Erin B. Inspired tagged me in this meme, and really… well, I like filling out surveys (and I’m a little excited that she thought to tag ME – I love her blog, so go check it out if you haven’t already!) so what the heck?

  1. You must post these rules.
  2. Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
  3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post. Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
  5. No tag backs and you legitimately have to tag 11 people.

  1. I was raised around hunting (mainly deer/elk, but my husband hunts – or would like to hunt – just about every kind of game out there) but couldn’t imagine killing anything myself.
  2. … but I realllllly like to eat the meat!
  3. Since about 1/3 of the way through my pregnancy, I haven’t been able to stomach stuffed pastas (ravioli, etc.)… forget about eating it, I can’t even think about the stuff. Still.
  4. I ate my first hot dog at the age of 21. Before that, I swore I hated them.
  5. I was one of the first in my family to graduate from a 4-year university. Go Cougs!
  6. In college, I studied journalism and still love the field (specifically, copy editing and newspaper design), but working in journalism just isn’t for me.
  7. Because of studying journalism, I’m very picky about grammar. Example: I hate it when people say “over $300” when they really mean “more than $300.”
  8. I watch entirely too much Law & Order: SVU and NCIS. I am not ashamed.
  9. One of the best birthday gifts I ever received was a half flat of strawberries from my big sister. I love strawberries.
  10. I can’t imagine life without dogs. I complain about them a lot (The hair! It’s everywhere! The mess! I can’t keep this place clean! Blah blah blah!) but I LOVE our dogs.
  11. I am overwhelmed by the thought of writing E’s birth story, but it’s something I really, really want to do.

  1. Where is one place (city, state, or country) that you are dying to visit?
Paris. Rome. London. Greece. EUROPE. Australia. New Zealand.
  2. What is your bed time?
Ha! What’s that? I (try to) sleep when E sleeps… which, lately, has only been during the day. Apparently he’s like his mama and is a bit of a night owl in his younger years. Example: Last night he was awake from 10:30 pm to 5:00 am. FIVE IN THE MORNING.
  3. What is one resolution or goal you have for 2012?
Increase my patience. I’ve never been a very patient person, and dealing with a newborn with my low levels of patience is not easy, y’all.
  4. What would be your last supper?
My mom’s fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, with my grandma’s potato salad, a fresh green salad and some pumpkin pie. And strawberry cheesecake.
  5. If you could eat a meal with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
    My dad… I miss him.
  6. What is your favorite animal?
Dogs! I can’t live without ’em.
  7. What is your dream job?
I don’t know about you, but I think the cast of Myth Busters has it pretty good.
  8. Who is your hero?
After going through labor (and the aftermath) and becoming a mother, I have a whole new respect for my mom. Case in point: She was back to work full-time TWO WEEKS after having me. Good grief. I can’t even.
  9. When you need a snack, do you reach for sweet or salty? (Bonus points if you list your favorite snack.)
Usually salty, but lately I’ve been all about the sweet.
  10. Does your style have a signature? (For example, [Erin’s] known for bold colors and loud prints.)
Not really. These days, I’m lucky if my personal styles involves a shower within the last 24 hours.
  11. What is your favorite book?
I really enjoyed “The Help.” And of course, there’s Harry Potter. There’s always Harry Potter.

  1. What is your favorite TV series?
  2. What is your favorite holiday, and why?
  3. Are you a dog person or a cat person?
  4. PC or Mac?
  5. Tea, coffee or hot chocolate?
  6. Why do you do the job you do?
  7. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
  8. Why is dealing with the Social Security office such an immense pain in the ass?
  9. What is the best way for you to learn something? (e.g., watching someone else do it, reading, doing it yourself)
  10. “It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.” Discuss.
  11. What is the best restaurant you’ve ever visited, and where is it? (And are there any in Washington state?)

Nobody. Sorry, I’m a grinch (and also tired and strapped for time – when oh when will Baby E wake up?!) so I’m not actually going to tag anyone… but if you decide to play along and answer the questions I supplied above, please let me know!

Handwriting game

Michelle over at Oh, Mishka recently did this handwriting game post, and while I wasn’t tagged by her to participate, I thought I’d take part anyway (because it’s Sunday and I don’t want to do anything productive).

So, yeah.

The questions are:

  1. What’s your name/blog name?
  2. What’s your blog’s URL?
  3. Write, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”
  4. Favorite quote?
  5. Favorite song?
  6. Favorite band/singer(s)?
  7. Anything else you want to say?
  8. Tag three bloggers to participate.

I tagged…

Some notes… picking my favorite song is, at any given point in time, practically impossible. I LOVE music, in all genres, so picking one single favorite is extremely difficult. But then “Smoke A Little Smoke” came on and, well, there we go. The same goes for favorite band/singer… I have a LOT of favorites, most of which I didn’t include in my photo. But what IS in the second photo is my favorite pen – I LOVE the Pilot G-2s. Love them. No, they didn’t (and won’t) pay me for saying that. But I have them in about seven different colors and are pretty much the only pens I’ll use.

Ten on Tuesday – my first!

Chelsea over at Roots & Rings does this Ten (questions) on Tuesday thing and… this is me, trying to get out of a blogging funk.

Here we go!

1. What are your plans for the holidays? Do you travel at Thanksgiving? If you celebrate Christmas, do you travel then, too?
My plans are pretty much on hold right now, depending on the weather. I’m no good at driving in snow, and it’s snowing, so there’s that. Best case scenario, I’d go to my mom’s for Thanksgiving, and the traveling to the regular mish-mash of Christmas festivities starting in the middle of December.

2. How do you make the plans for the holiday? If you have a significant other, how do you decide which family to visit?
I try to plan ahead, but sometimes planning too far ahead gives me anxiety (only joking a little bit here, people) so a lot of the time I just kind of play it by ear.

3. Do you have your Thanksgiving meal at lunch or later in the day?
We usually eat at Mom’s around… 2 or 3? After snacking all morning… then I usually eat again later in the evening.

4. Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving tradition?

5. After a big meal do you lounge around or get up and take a walk?
LOUNGE! Play on the internet while silly boys watch their silly football.

6. Do you shop on “Black Friday” or do you avoid it?
Nooo no no no. My big sister has tried to get me to go with her a couple times, but I am just not okay with waking up that early on a day I don’t have to go to work. I think I would like to give it a shot one of these years, though, just to say I did it.

7. When do you usually finish your Christmas shopping?
I’m a procrastinator, so… sometimes, I get my last gift on my way to whatever event at which I’m supposed to deliver said gift. Whoops.

8. Do you and your significant other exchange gifts? Is there a budget?
Budget, schmudget. Just gotta be able to pay (most of) the bills.

9. When do you decorate for the holidays?
Whenever I want. I put up a couple little things this weekend.

10. Do you go “all out” with the decor or do you keep it simple?
I usually keep it pretty simple, but then, I’ve never decorated a house I OWN for Christmas, so this year might be different?

Grace in Small Things

Things have been pretty depressing around these parts lately. I know it, you know it. It’s getting pretty goddamn old pretty goddamn fast.

SO. A few things I can actually smile about:

  • Beautiful, cute, gorgeous, adorable, cuddly dogs. Callie, Colt and Velvet are sweet, sweet, sweet. It’s like they can tell I’m not right, I’m not myself and that I just need a little TLC. Colt snuggles with me, Callie is very sweet and affectionate, and Velvet just lays there, resting her head on my feet as if to say, “I’m here if you need me, Mom.”
  • Private Practice. Have y’all seen this show lately? I have to admit, it took me awhile to get into it. But something about Grey’s Anatomy is just getting a little old (though I am still a little swoony over McDreamy) but, um, HELLO TAYE DIGGS.
  • Work. I know, right? But, almost a year in, and I still don’t go a day at work without thinking how truly lucky I am to have a job I enjoy, that I don’t hate waking up for in the morning. I really, really love my job, my coworkers. I am one of the lucky ones.
  • Online shopping. Or, you know, retail therapy. Recent purchases include a scarf, a jacket, a necklace, a pair of gloves, a sweater and a pair of jeans. Don’t worry, there will be a whoooole post dedicated to the beauty that is the recent additions to my closet.
  • Irony. Sometimes, when life hands you shitty situations (or you put yourself in a shitty life situation), you have to laugh at life’s ironies when they arise. Maybe irony isn’t the right word here, actually, but I can’t explain without ACTUALLY explaining it and, well, that’s just not gonna happen. But… god, life is funny sometimes, y’all.
  • The change in seasons. My part of the state isn’t always the most gorgeous place to see, but sometimes it is. My house on the hill allows me to see some things I wouldn’t otherwise. The fog in the valley first thing in the morning, though it can be troublesome to drive in, is a pretty remarkable thing to see. A morning I don’t see deer on my drive to work is abnormal. Have you seen deer close up and in person? They are gorgeous, truly gorgeous creatures.
